Hannah is a young South African creative. She’s an enthusiastic storyteller with a passion for screenwriting and film directing.
Her love for storytelling started as a child Video Star director where she conceptualised stories to dramatic choices of music, with the help of her actress of a sister. The years of her adolescence were then spent in pointe shoes, choir rooms, music practices and on the stage of her Drama class. Her keen ear for beats and rhythm, her precision of movement, and her attention to theatrical details have great influence over her work.
As an undergraduate film student at the University of Cape Town (UCT), she kept finding herself in the roles of writing and directing. Her short film “The Last Supper” travelled successfully around the festival circuit and was selected by Film Cape Town to be screened at FAME Week Africa 2024. As a UCT Honours student, she took a step back from the practical side of film production and focused on screenwriting, writing her first feature film called “Kokerboom”. The script is currently in development.
As a storyteller, she’s passionate about searching for the overlaps or the common ground that exists between people. She’s also drawn to stories that remind audiences that there is beauty in the ordinary, meaning in the meaningless.
“I think that now, more than ever, people feel disconnected. We exist in our own echo chambers. I aspire to direct stories that comfort and entertain, but more importantly, engage with divergent perspectives that inspire us all to reach out, make connections outside of our comfort zones and meet each other in the middle”.
